Getting to the Louvre Museum
The Louvre sits in the 1st arrondissement on the Right Bank of the Seine, between the Tuileries Garden and the historic heart of Paris. Metro, bus and walking all work well.
Address and map
Musée du Louvre, 75001 Paris, France. Open a map: OpenStreetMap search. The museum’s own map, entrances and directions page is the most reliable source for current access.
By metro
The station Palais-Royal Musée du Louvre on lines 1 and 7 is the usual choice and is very close to the museum. Line 1 also stops at Louvre Rivoli, a short walk away. Stations and connections can be affected by works, so check the official directions before you travel.
By bus, bike or on foot
Several bus routes stop near the museum, and there are shared bike stations in the area. On foot, the Louvre is an easy walk from the Tuileries Garden, Place de la Concorde, the Pont des Arts and Châtelet. Walking along the river is a pleasant way to arrive if you have time.
Entrances
Pyramid
The main entrance in the Cour Napoléon. It is the best known access point, but it is not automatically the meeting point for tours.
Carrousel
An underground access through the Carrousel du Louvre shopping area. Its opening depends on the museum’s arrangements on the day.
Porte des Lions
A smaller entrance on the river side of the Denon wing. It is often closed, so do not plan around it without checking.
Entrance rules can change for security, events and works. Check the official map and entrances page before your visit.
Your voucher comes first
If you have booked a tour, the provider’s meeting point and arrival time on your voucher take priority over anything on this page. Some tours gather in a square or at a landmark nearby and walk in together.
Check the meeting point on your voucher. A guided tour may start outside the museum rather than at the main entrance. Save the address offline the night before.
Allow time for security
All visitors pass through security. Add a margin to your journey so that a short wait does not make you miss a tour start or your timed entry. For timings, see opening hours; for the full checklist, see plan your visit.
