What one hour can and cannot do
About an hour of guiding is enough for a handful of stops and a clear sense of how the museum fits together. You will hear the story of a few key works and learn how to move between the wings. You will not see every department, and time in front of each work is limited, especially in crowded rooms.
We think of this format as a starting point. It is ideal on a packed itinerary, or as a first step before you explore on your own.
The guide and the ticket are two different things
This product combines reserved entry with a guided tour. It is useful to keep the two parts apart when you read the listing:
- The guided part covers the route the guide leads. That is where the masterpieces selection lives.
- The access part is the entry included in the package. What it allows after the tour, and whether exhibitions are included, is set by the package conditions.
On the page we reviewed, temporary exhibitions were not included. Do not assume that conditions of the official museum ticket carry over to a third party package.
Typical highlights
Short highlight routes in the Louvre often include works in the Denon wing, such as the Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory of Samothrace and large French paintings, and sometimes the Venus de Milo in Sully. The actual selection depends on the option, the guide and the rooms open on the day. Read more in our Mona Lisa guide.
If you want one hour with a guide and then your own pace, check whether you can stay in the museum after the tour before you pay. If you cannot, a longer guided tour may be better value for your day.

Frequently asked questions
Does a one hour masterpieces tour cover the whole museum?
No. It is a short orientation past a selection of well known works. It is not a complete tour of the collections, and some time is spent walking between rooms.
Are temporary exhibitions included?
Not on the listing we reviewed. Check the inclusions of your option, and book a separate ticket if an exhibition is part of your plan.
Which works will we see?
The selection depends on the current option and on which galleries are open. Famous works such as the Mona Lisa or the Winged Victory are common stops, but no route can guarantee a specific work.
Is this the same as a standard museum ticket?
No. It is a package of reserved entry and a short guided tour. The rules of the official museum ticket do not automatically apply to this package.
Can I continue on my own after the tour?
That depends on the ticket conditions in your option. Many visitors plan to continue alone, so check this before booking if it matters to you.
